9. summer makeup

hello children 🙂

I know, it’s been a while (ish) since I last posted, just because my hectic schedule of summer sailing seems to be controlling my life…I suppose that this, plus the stress of the all too quickly approaching school year, leads me to adjust my posting schedule. I’m thinking once a week, on Sundays (today isn’t Sunday, but you can expect any posts after this one to follow the revised schedule). What do you think?

Anyways, on to today’s topic: my everyday summer makeup routine! My go-to makeup look is pretty much consistent throughout the whole year, but during the summer I go for a much more natural look in terms of blush, eyeshadow, and shade of lipstick. I do my best to avoid using eyeshadow, just because I’m rubbish at applying it, so I really only wear it for a party or night out. When I do wear eyeshadow, I use either my Sephora collection palette (I think mine is discontinued because it’s rather old, but there’s more here), or my Lilly Pulitzer for Estée Lauder palette, which I got as part of a free gift package at Macy’s.

Before applying anything, however, I wash my face using products from Clinique’s Face Forward campaign (see this post for more details). After that, I put on my foundation. I really love Boot’s No 7 Beautifully Matte in Cool Beige because it has SPF and doesn’t leave your skin looking shiny and oily. It also gives really great coverage, which makes it great for anyone with acne. I don’t use a concealer, just because I’m able to cover up everything I need with my foundation.

Next comes my eyeliner. I try for a small wing at the corners of my eyes, but if that doesn’t work out I can always fall back on just a simple line on my eyelids. Unless I’m going out at night and I want a darker look, I don’t add any under my eyes. I’ve had my Sephora Collection retractable brown eyeliner for around 6 months, and I love how it stays on all day with minimal smudging. My only complaint is that though it says it’s waterproof, it’s really not.

If I had to choose only one type of makeup to have, mascara would definitely be my first choice. It’s extremely easy to put on, and enlarges your eyes to almost the same effect as applying layers and layers of primer, eyeshadow, eyeliner, and other products. I love the fresh and simple look it gives you, which is why I use my brown mascara from Sephora Collection almost daily.

Lastly, I do my lips. All of my lipstick is from Clinique, and the shade I used today is called Tenderheart. I like this natural shade for a light and simple look.

And that completes my look for today! Here’s the final result:
