hello children 🙂
Because I obviously am a food connoisseur and go out to eat all the time, I thought I’d start a little series in which I take pictures of food, eat it, and judge it. I totally know my stuff.
So yesterday it was a friend’s birthday (s/o to Reggie <3), and a group of us went out for brunch at the Great Maple in Hillcrest. I drive by this place all the time, but it was the first time I’d ever eaten there, and wow would I go there again.
First of all, I loved the décor. The vibe was very vintage, and I loved how they had old speakers set into the ceiling. The teal paneling at the bar and on the wall/ceiling was also very aesthetically pleasing. There was also a nice holiday setup going on up at the reservation desk, which was cute.
Now onto the best part – the food. Go look at their menu right now if you want your mouth to water. I mean, they had Fruity Pebbles pancakes! Is that kind of beauty even allowed? Anyways. Back to what I actually ate. I got a cappuccino, which, though my coffee taste isn’t terribly wide, was ranked pretty high in my books.
Before we ordered our food, some servers came around with a huge sample board of maple donut holes with Red Hots on them. I normally hate candies like Red Hots or Hot Tamales, but these doughnut holes were delicious.
Next up was the main meal. I was considering ordering their egg white and avocado toast because it sounded pretty good, but that day I wasn’t really up to eating healthy, so of course when we ordered 2 plates of Great Maple’s famous Maple Bacon Donuts I ate them with great enjoyment.
With some difficulty I decided on the chocolate bacon pancakes (what is it with the bacon? I don’t normally like it but for some reason I craved it yesterday). These were extremely delicious though I do think that the bacon bits in the batter could’ve been distributed more evenly – I’d get one bite with none, and the next would have a mouthful.
All in all, this was an amazing place to eat – I loved the feel of the restaurant and the food was to die for (as of now I’m craving another one of those donuts, not gonna lie). 5/5 stars!
PS: The portions are HUGE here, so if you come wanting to finish your food I suggest you have a very large appetite or come on an empty stomach.
